Others Listed from Previous Genesee County Honor Rolls

———

Sixty-seven individuals are included in the updated Genesee County WWI Honor Roll and its accompanying biographical profiles. However, among the four previously published countywide  honor rolls and the “Batavia’s Honor Roll” series on which the updated roll was based (click here to view those rolls), a total of twelve additional names also were listed as Genesee County soldiers or sailors. Careful research determined that these names had been included erroneously on one or more of the previous lists; they do not appear on the updated Genesee County roll.

Five were determined to have actually been from other New York counties. Two were Canadian soldiers and another was a British soldier—all three had ties to Genesee County but are more appropriately honored among their own countrymen. Another was clearly a Genesee County WWI sailor, but died in 1920 of non-service-related causes. In two other cases, research failed to determine the soldiers’ actual home towns, but no evidence could be found that they ever lived in Genesee County.

You’ll find biographical profiles and supporting documents honoring these ten soldiers and sailors by clicking on their names, below. (Research established that the remaining two individuals, included only on County List 4, were actually civilians and didn’t serve in the war. I’ve chosen not to include their information here.)
